Speaker: Sallie Gill
Many of you may have seen the 2024 movie “The Six Triple Eight” which was about an all-Black, all female postal battalion resolving a 2-year massive mail backlog in WWII to lift soldier morale. Sallie Gill, the wife of one of our former Chapter Presidents, has personal insight into her parents’ WWII mail. With actual correspondence she will share, Sallie will talk to us about the methods actually used in the mail and the limitations imposed in this correspondence. Her father was an Army Officer in WWII and served much of the war in North Africa and Italy. Sallie has retained all the correspondence between her parents during WWII, portions of which will be available for individual review. Sallie has a fair amount of association with the military. In addition to her father and her Marine husband, her brother, Army 1st Lt. Arthur Lee Galloway, Jr., was killed in Vietnam in 1971. Lee’s medals included the Bronze Star with Combat V and two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with Numeral 5 and two Purple Hearts.
